K-M Early Childhood Initiative
Kasson-Mantorville School District received an Early Childhood Initiative grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation in 2013. The grant required a dollar for dollar match where 50% of the match must be in cash with the remainder being in-kind donations within the first two years.
K-M Community Education developed an early childhood coalition made up of individuals representing many sectors of our community. This is a grant to be used with the community target population will be all children five and under and their families.
K-M Community Education manages the grant and fundraising dollars but the community will be responsible for working with Community Education and help to identify local resources, develop an action plan, and evaluate the programs effectiveness.
Some of the projects of the ECI Committee include:
- 5K Family Fun Run Walk Stroll
- Community Book Shelves and Book Houses
- 1,000 Books before Kindergarten
- Early Childhood Transportation Scholarships
- Kindergarten Readiness Checklist
- Community Educator Based Nights
- K-M Baby Clinic
- Chamber Speakers and Special Events
